This is the branch of a Sycamore tree that grows at the Brandywine Battlefield park. Around here, these trees are often called Buttonwoods.
While this tree is old, it isn't nearly as old or big as the one that stands next to the Gilpin House. NC Wyeth painted that tree (about fifty yards away from this one) and called the painting "Buttonwood Farm". You can see it at the Reading Public Museum if you are ever in Reading, PA.
The painting is twenty inches wide by twenty inches tall. It is an oil on board.
