This is a dinner bell outside the farmhouse at Kuerner's farm in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Andrew Wyeth painted this farm and its people hundreds of times.
Mrs. Kuerner would ring the bell when it was time for her family to come in from the fields for a meal. I assume it is made of brass or copper. There is a very heavy green patina from all the years it has been outside the front door.
The painting is eight inches wide by ten inches tall. It is an oil on a board. It was painted on-site, en plein air.
